FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Joining a choir can feel daunting. We're a welcoming bunch but sometimes it helps to know what you're getting yourself into and what is expected from you.

We've pulled together a list of FAQs below to help you decide if we're right for you. But if you have any more questions you can always email us info@southendvox.com or click the Contact Us button and fill out the form. One of our friendly committee will get back to you.
Where and when do you rehearse?
Wednesdays, 7:30–9:30pm at St Laurence Church Hall, Eastwoodbury Lane, SS2 6UN (by the large Tesco on the A127).
Do I need experience?
Nope! You don’t need to read music or be an expert singer — just enthusiasm and commitment are all we ask.
No-one will be listening to individual voices. We are there as a group and are always looking to create the best sound as a complete choir.
Are auditions needed?
For Southend Vox, there are no scary auditions. Anyone who is willing to be a team player, give their best and make a consistent commitment is very welcome to join. But whether a complete novice, secret shower singer, or skilled musician, you will receive the warmest welcome at Vox.
We do hold auditions for Vox Chamber, but we promise they're not scary!
What are the fees?
£45 per term (about 10–12 weeks). First taster session is free.
What do I need to bring to rehearsal?
Music is provided digitally so most members opt to use a tablet device (although paper and pencil are still fine!), a bottle of water and a smile! We also provide tea and biscuits.
Do I have to be able to read music?
No, many of our members don't. We provide everyone with sheet music or word sheets for each song. And we often have recorded part lines if you prefer to learn that way.
Do I need to do anything outside of rehearsals and performances?
We pride ourselves on high standards of performance as we want to be the best we can be, irrespective of the fact we are a community choir. To achieve that, most members do put in some additional practice at home in the run up to concerts or big performances, but day-to-day this is not required.
